The Salt On Our Skin (2023)
The film follows ocean communities and cultures, through the energy of waves. Throughout history, rich coastal environments have fostered diverse people and become a place of joy, gathering and reflection. Despite local barriers in southern California, THE SALT ON OUR SKIN delves into Indigenous communities reclaiming their narratives and forging connections across the channels and in the deep sea.
As a co-director and the lead editor, I wanted this film to act as a medium for diverse groups to present their stories - the good, the bad, & the ugly. From chartering the Santa Barbara Channel to learning how to surf with the Orange County LatinX Surf Club, this film acted as both an adventure and a personal learning journey, teaching me how to become a better storyteller and share nuance with varying audiences.
